The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Monday for the 19th consecutive day since rising to a record, decreasing 1.3 cents to $5.801.

The average price has dropped 69.3 cents over the past 19 days, including 1.7 cents Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is at its lowest since Sept. 25 and 30.6 cents less than one week ago. However, it is 11.2 cents more than one month ago and $1.247 higher than one year ago — mainly due to a 33-day streak of increases totaling $1.248 that ended Oct. 6.

The Orange County average price also dropped for the 19th consecutive day since rising to a record, decreasing six-tenths of a cent to $5.676, its lowest amount since Sept. 24.

The Orange County average price has dropped 78.3 cents over the past 19 days, including 1.6 cents Sunday, following a run of 15 increases in 16 days totaling $1.063 that ended Oct. 6.

The Orange County average price is 30.2 cents less than one week ago, but eight-tenths of a cent more than one month ago and $1.16 higher than one year ago.

“There are already several Southern California stations charging $5 a gallon or less for regular unleaded, and we expect that number to grow in coming days,” Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California, told City News Service.

The national average price dropped for the 12th time in 13 days, decreasing two-tenths of a cent to $3.793, its lowest amount since Sept. 29. It has dropped 13 cents over the past 13 days, including eight-tenths of a cent Sunday.

The national average price is 9.5 cents less than one week ago, but 9.3 cents more than one month ago and 40.8 cents higher than one year ago. It is $1.223 less than the record of $5.016 set June 14.
