The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped four-tenths of a cent Wednesday to $4.756, after increasing nine times in the previous 11 days.
The average price is 3 cents more than one week ago, 16.2 cents less than one month ago, and 24.3 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
It has dropped $1.738 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price rose two-tenths of a cent to $4.663. It is 5.7 cents more than one week ago, 8.7 cents less than one month ago, and 21.7 cents higher than one year ago.
It has dropped $1.796 from its record high of $6.459 set Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price dropped for the 11th time in the last 12 days, decreasing 1 cent to $3.094. The national average price is 2.8 cents less than one week ago, 14.9 cents lower than one month ago, and 13.4 cents less than one year ago. It has decreased $1.922 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
“After a brief hiatus, the national average has moved off its recent high, again falling closer to the $3 per gallon mark, setting up a potential second attempt at slipping below $2.99 for the first time since 2021,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from more than 150,000 stations.
“While gas prices have risen in some areas, such as California after refinery snags emerged, other states have returned to declines. Illinois is one such example, falling below $3 per gallon for the first time since 2021. The Great Lakes and Gulf Coast offer some of the nation’s lowest gas prices, with the window of opportunity holding for the next few weeks to potentially re-test some of the levels seen a few weeks ago.”
