A 92-year-old man suffered major head trauma when he was struck by a 95-year-old motorist in Costa Mesa, a police lieutenant said Sunday.
Robert Tidd was driving westbound on Baker Street in a 1993 Oldsmobile 88 when the front end of his car struck the 92-year-old pedestrian, who had just walked into traffic from the north side of Baker Street near Loren Lane, said Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott.
Scott said the pedestrian was not within a designated crosswalk area at the time of the crash. Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Paramedics rushed the 92-year-old pedestrian to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was being treated for major head trauma, the police lieutenant said.
Tidd was questioned by investigators at the scene of the crash. He showed no apparent signs of impairment and was cooperative with investigators and was released.
Anyone who saw the incident was asked to call Costa Mesa police Traffic Investigator Darren Wood at (714) 754-5264.
