A statement released this morning said a Global Compassion Summit attended by Nobel laureates, celebrities, speakers and performers will be held in the Dalai Lama’s honor July 5-7 and serve as the official 80th birthday celebration.
The kickoff will be at the Honda Center in Anaheim, followed by two days of dialogues and panel discussions on the UC Irvine campus, it said. All events are open to the public. Tickets will go on sale April 2.
The summit will mark the Dalai Lama’s first visit to Anaheim and third to Irvine.
“This milestone occasion is a joyous opportunity for people to come together in celebration of His Holiness’ life and achievements,” said Tenzin Dhonden, a close aide to the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.
