A chemical put into a urinal at an Anaheim restaurant by a maintenance crew Friday caused some kind of chemical reaction that sent one person to a hospital to be checked out.

Firefighters were sent just before 2 p.m. to JT Schmid’s Restaurant & Brewery at 2610 E. Katella Ave., according to Sgt. Daron Wyatt of the Anaheim Police Department.

People in two businesses in the same strip mall sheltered in place until the premises were deemed safe, Wyatt said. Firefighters clear the scene about 4:45 p.m., he said.

The person taken to a hospital was one of six who were in the bathroom when the chemical reaction occurred, Wyatt said.

No information was immediately available about the substances involved.
