A stretch of the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway between the Costa Mesa (55) and Garden Grove (22) freeways will be closed overnight this weekend.
The northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway will be off-limits until 7 a.m. Saturday, and again from 11 p.m. Saturday eveningvvvvvcd through 9 a.m. Sunday, to allow workers to demolish the carpool bridge on the freeway at Main Street, according to the Orange County Transportation Authority.
The work is being done to make room for a second carpool lane to be added to the 5 Freeway between the 55 and the Orange (57) freeways.
Main Street between Santa Clara Avenue and MainPlace Drive will also be closed overnight on Friday, as well as the connectors to the 55 and the 57 carpool connection to the 5. The northbound Main Street onramp at the 5 and the Broadway offramp will be closed until 10 a.m. Sunday.
Detours will be posted to guide drivers to alternate routes.
