Firefighters put out a fire at a home in Mission Viejo Sunday that threatened a woman and her dog.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 1 p.m. to the 27800 block of Abadejo, and found smoke showing at the single-family home, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

They initiated an attack on the fire and a search for residents.

“It was determined the resident had made it out without injury, however her dog was still inside,” the department said. “Firefighters confined the fire to the kitchen and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the home. We are happy to report that crews found the little dog inside and it appears to be in good condition.”

The Red Cross was requested to provide assistance to the resident.

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
