The Riverside County Fire Department announced the passing of Fire Captain Chris Christensen Saturday.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Fire Captain Chris Christensen,” the department said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“Captain Christensen, a 23-year veteran of CAL FIRE, passed away this morning while off duty, surrounded by his loved ones. He served our Riverside Unit with dedication and was currently assigned to Battalion 4.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Christensen family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”
The reason for Christensen’s passing was not immediately clear.
