A pickup truck driver was killed Thursday in a collision with a big rig on state Route 74 in Palm Desert.
California Highway Patrol records indicated that the big rig was traveling “downbound” shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday when it lost control and overturned.
CHP officer David Torres told City News Service that the big rig crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado traveling the opposite direction, the driver of which was pronounced dead at the scene.
All lanes on SR-74 remain closed from Palowet Drive to state Route 371, according to Torres, who said the reopening time was unknown.
A coroner was requested to the scene at approximately 8:25 a.m., according to CHP records. The Silverado driver was not immediately publicly identified.
