Firefighters extinguished a blaze inside a building with heavy smoke showing at UC Riverside that left a firefighter with a minor injury, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 4:43 p.m. Sunday at 900 University Ave., according to the Riverside Fire Department.

Three engine companies, one chief officer and 25 firefighters arrived at the scene and reported seeing heavy smoke coming from gable vents inside a metal building.

A crew deployed a hose line to put out the fire, and the miscellaneous contents inside were fenced off in a separate area of the building, officials said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, but “it does not look … to be malicious in nature,” the department said.
