The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped for the fifth consecutive day Saturday, decreasing 1.6 cents to $4.609, its largest one-day drop since an identical decrease on Sept. 24.

The average price is 5.3 cents less than one week ago, 22.1 cents more than one month ago, and 12.3 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.764 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

“Oil Price Information Service reports that Energy Information Administration and California Energy Commission data shows the state’s inventories and imports of gasoline have increased in the past week,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

“OPIS also reported that the HF Sinclair refinery in Anacortes, (Washington) has announced it will begin refining California-blend gasoline as early as next month.”

The national average price dropped for the ninth consecutive day, decreasing 1.1 cents to $3.103. The national average price is 4.8 cents less than one week ago, one-tenth of a cent more than one month ago and 22.8 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped $1.913 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
