A 33-year-old man was arrested Friday on suspicion of child abduction and child endangerment after allegedly fleeing with his daughter during a supervised visit in Desert Hot Springs, authorities said.
Officers responded around 8:40 p.m. Thursday to a report of a child abduction involving Oscar Landeros and his 8-year-old daughter, according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
The suspect was visiting the girl on a limited court-ordered visit Thursday and “made numerous threats to harm himself and his daughter,” police said.
An Amber alert was issued through the California Highway Patrol Riverside and San Bernardino counties on behalf of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
Landeros’ vehicle, a gray Toyota Tacoma, was located on Interstate 10 Freeway near the city of Beaumont at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday, police said.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, Landeros allegedly fled, leading to a pursuit that ended near Interstate 10 and Monterey Avenue in Palm Desert, according to police.
The girl was safely rescued and returned to her mother, police said. No injuries were reported, and the Amber Alert was deactivated shortly afterward.
Landeros was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio Friday morning with bail set at $500,000.
