Palm Springs city officials warned residents Friday to be on alert when entering Gateway Park due to a large beehive, which is expected to be removed by a professional beekeeping service within the next week.
City officials said they plan to manage the issue at Gateway Park, located near the intersection of East Vista Chino and North Gene Autry Trail, by hiring a professional service to relocate the queen bee.
The relocation process involves removing and relocating the queen bee from the hive without harm, a delicate process that may take 7-14 days, officials said.
The public can still use the park but should avoid the north side of the bocce ball courts, where the “sizeable” bee swarm is located.
