An extreme heat warning was in effect in eastern Riverside County Sunday, and a heat advisory was issued for early this week in western areas due to expected temperatures above 95 degrees.
Sunday’s highs reached 90 in the downtown Riverside area, 86 in Temecula, 93 in Hemet, and 107 in the Coachella Valley and Palm Springs, according to the National Weather Service.
The extreme heat warning was in effect until 8 p.m. Monday in the areas of Coachella, Borrego Springs, Indio, Palm Desert Country, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta and Cathedral City, according to the NWS.
The heat advisory was effective from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in the areas of downtown Riverside, Moreno Valley, Corona, Temecula and Hemet.
“Warming will continue into Monday with an additional 3 to 7 degree increase compared to today. This will bring high temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above average for inland locations Monday,” the NWS said.
Tuesday’s temperatures were expected to cool 5 to 12 degrees throughout the county, with “south to southeast winds in the deserts on Tuesday and westerly winds from the mountain slopes into the deserts on Wednesday,” forecasters announced.
Wednesday through Friday temperatures were expected to linger in the low 80s in downtown Riverside and Hemet, the mid-70s in Temecula and upper 90s in the Coachella Valley and Palm Springs.
By next weekend, forecasters expected temperatures to reach the upper 80s in downtown Riverside and Hemet, the low 80s in Temecula and triple digits in the Coachella Valley and Palm Springs.
