The first week of summer will see triple-digit temperatures coming to Riverside County, followed by a cooling trend by next weekend, forecasters said Sunday.

Sunday’s temperatures reached a high of 83 in the downtown Riverside area, 79 in Temecula, 86 in Hemet, 105 in Coachella and 103 in Palm Springs, according to the National Weather Service.

The hot temperatures were expected to last through Thursday.

“Daytime high temperatures on those days will likely be 5 to 10 degrees above average for inland locations with localized areas of moderate heat risk away from the coast, and areas of major heat risk in the low desert,” the NWS said.

The warmest day this week was expected to be Wednesday when temperatures were predicted to reach 95 in the downtown Riverside area, 89 in Temecula, 98 in Hemet, 114 in Coachella and 112 in Palm Springs.

“A majority of ensemble members now show the ridge of high pressure beginning to weaken and shift east by Thursday as a low pressure trough approaches the West Coast. This will result in a cooling trend beginning on Friday with next Sunday being the coolest day overall,” the agency announced.

By Saturday, temperatures were expected to drop to 84 in the downtown Riverside area, 80 in Temecula, 87 in Hemet, 106 in Coachella and 101 in Palm Springs.
