As a tribute to two entertainers who died this week, the Historic Camelot Theatre at the Palm Springs Cultural Center will screen a pair of films in honor of Dolly Parton and Tim Curry next month.
The Parton-starring “9 To 5” will be showcased at 6 p.m. Sept. 16, and “Clue” featuring Curry will be showcased at 6 p.m. Sept. 23. both films will be screened for free at 2300 E. Baristo Road.
“There are artists whose work becomes part of our shared memory — the performances we quote, the songs we know by heart, the film we return to because they still make us laugh,” center officials said on a social media post.
Parton died at the age of 80 Tuesday following her battle with cancer. The “Jolene” country singer was enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame and held roles in 1982’s “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” and 1989’s “Steel Magnolias.” Beyond her entertainment career, she opened Dollywood, near the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee in 1986.
Curry, who gained fame in the role of Dr. Frank N. Furter in 1975’s “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” died Tuesday at the age of 80. His cause of death was not immediately known, but he was in declining health after he suffered a massive stroke in 2012. According to TMZ, police arrived at Curry’s Los Angeles home at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday. No foul play was suspected.
The Grappenhall, Cheshire, England-born actor was featured in numerous films and productions, including “It,” “Congo” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
