The Los Angeles Kings will honor former center Jimmy Carson before Monday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks at Staples Center in the finale of their three-game Legends Night Series games for the 2015-16 season.

Carson was selected by the Kings with the second choice in the 1986 NHL draft. He scored 37 goals as a rookie in the 1986-87 season and was third in voting for the Calder Trophy, which goes to the league’s top rookie. The award went Carson’s teammate and future Hockey Hall of Fame member Luc Robitaille.

Carson scored 55 goals in the 1987-88 season, becoming the second player in NHL history to score 50 goals in a season before turning 20 years old. Wayne Gretzky was the first. Carson was selected as the team’s MVP.

Carson was dealt to the Edmonton Oilers in the 1988 trade that brought Gretzky to the Kings.

Carson returned to the Kings in a 1993 trade with the Detroit Red Wings and remained with the team through the 1993-94 season.

Fans are encouraged to reach their seats early. All fans will receive a commemorative Jimmy Carson pin. The ceremony will be televised live by KCOP-TV Channel 13.

The Kings will wear their vintage gold jerseys with the crown emblem. The only times the Kings will wear that jersey at home games this season are for Legends Night Series games.
