A three-day football camp featuring more than 20 former NFL pros, including Hall-of-Famer Marshall Faulk, continues Saturday in Bermuda Dunes.
Desert Christian Academy is hosting the Coachella Showcase event through Sunday, according to a statement from the school.
“The goal is to bring notoriety to the Coachella Valley and get our student-athletes to be coached by the best,” Desert Christian Academy administrator and former NFL player Chris Johnson said in a statement. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to come out and support us as fans and participants, and showcase our thriving and talented valley.”
On Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to noon, the public will have an opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet featuring music, food trucks, vendors and a competitive atmosphere, DCA officials said. Players will also compete in a 7-on-7 tourney and young linemen will compete in the Coachella Lineman Challenge for the “King of the Lineman” trophy.
The camp began Friday with players participating in Zybek Combine Testing, a “Standardized Athlete Test” that delivers usable data on speed, agility and strength, DCA said. Players from elementary to high school were able to learn the fundamentals of football during the “Coached by the Pros” camp.
Faulk is joining 20 other football experts, including nine-year NFL veteran Darnay Scott and 13-year NFL veteran Robert Griffith to help lead the camp, DCA officials said.
