Manhattan Beach officials Friday issued a warning about the likelihood of increased traffic and limited parking in the beachside enclave this weekend, with the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix road cycling race scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Parking will be prohibited on Valley Drive between 15th and 18th streets beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday and continuing until 6 p.m. Sunday.

Between 4 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, public Parking Lot 8, the Joslyn Community Center Lot and the Upper Civic Center Lot will all be closed for the Chevron and South Bay Wheelmen-sponsored event.

Between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Valley Drive will be closed between 13th Street and Pacific Avenue, as will Ardmore Avenue between Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Pacific Avenue, and 15th Street between Highland and Ardmore avenues.

The public is being advised to expect delays and to plan alternate routes.

This weekend’s race will be the 63rd edition of the event, which draws an international field of top riders.

The event has been held annually since 1962, with a hiatus during the COVID pandemic.
