A wildfire that scorched 13 acres on the south edge of Banning was 100% contained Tuesday, authorities said.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 12:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Westward and San Gorgonio avenues, just south of Interstate 10, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Firefighters worked throughout the night digging containment lines, with fire officials confirming the flames had been fully encircled by about 7 a.m. Tuesday.
No homes or other structures were damaged, and no evacuations were ordered, officials said.
At the height of the blaze, the agency said 11 engine crews and seven hand crews — numbering about 130 personnel — were sent to the location and encountered flames moving in a westerly direction.
Two Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters made runs as the fire spread into thicker vegetation, eventually blunting its progress, according to reports from the scene.
By 2 p.m., the fire’s forward rate of spread had been stopped.
The cause was under investigation.
