A big rig truck hauling a load of milk caught fire on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Castaic early Friday morning and temporarily blocked all southbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The incident at the 2,000-foot level on the southbound 5 Freeway, between Lake Hughes and Castaic roads east of Lake Castaic, was reported at 12:36 a.m., said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.

The cab of the truck caught fire, Polizzi said. The fire was put out by a county fire crew, according to an L.A. County Fire Department dispatcher.

The incident shut down all southbound lanes temporarily. A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 1 a.m., Polizzi said.

No injuries were reported.

As of 2:30 a.m., the Number 1 was open but three other southbound lanes remained shut down, he said. The closures were expected to continue through 3 a.m.

The incident was under investigation by the CHP.
