An 81-year-old man is hospitalized in critical, but stable condition after being beaten this morning in the parking lot of a Santa Ana restaurant.
The victim was attacked about 6:10 a.m. after getting out of his vehicle in the parking lot of the Emerald Bay Restaurant, 5015 W. Edinger Ave., where a man walked up to him and repeatedly punched and kicked him, knocking him to the ground, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
“The guy was there to just get a cup of coffee and read his newspaper,” Bertagna said. “It (the attack) was out of no where.”
The suspect was described as a 5-foot, 10-inch tall unshaven black man about 40 to 50 years old, weighing 160 pounds.
He was last seen wearing a gray long sleeve shirt or black sweater, he said. Santa Ana police detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the attack to call them at (714) 493-9135.
