A stabbing in Pasadena on Friday left a man and his wife dead and another man — apparently a family member who may have been staying with them — in custody.
Police and paramedics responded to 290 N. Madison Ave. shortly before 6:30 a.m. in response to a 911 call from a man who said he and his wife had been stabbed by a relative, according to Pasadena police. Both victims were taken to a hospital, where the woman died shortly after arriving and the man died while in surgery, police said.
The man was in his mid-50s and the woman, in her early 60s, Pasadena police Lt. Tracey Ibarra said.
Police did not immediately identify the couple, but the man was identified by his employer as Larry Bressler, the director of operations for Chefs Center of California, a commercial food-preparation and education center.
“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Larry Bressler, Chef Center’s director of operations, died tragically this morning,” according to a statement from the center. “Larry was an esteemed and well-regarded member of our team and the community at large. He will be greatly missed.”
Ibarra said the stabbing occurred in the couple’s residence, and suspect may have been staying there, Ibarra said.
The suspect was taken into custody about a block from the crime scene. That man, in his late 20s or early 30s, was taken to a hospital in police custody for treatment of an unspecified injury, Ibarra said. His name was not immediately released.
