An investment syndicate led by Los Angeles-based developers David Gross and R. Donahue Peebles and including rap mogul DJ Khaled is making a bid to acquire the lease of the Viceroy Santa Monica hotel, the group announced Friday.
LaSalle Hotel Properties, leaseholders of the upscale 162-room hotel located on Ocean Avenue, started shopping the property in August.
Also involved in the bid are rap notable Nipsey Hussle and National Basketball Association player Luol Deng.
If the bid is successful, the syndicate will become the first minority-led group to operate a high-end hotel in the Santa Monica area, according to Gross.
“The Viceroy is one of my favorite hotels in the Los Angeles area,” said Gross, CEO of The Confluent Group. “It has an incredible location and an understated, cool vibe. My partners and I are uniquely capable of repositioning the property as the luxury, boutique hotel with the most dynamic hospitality experience in Santa Monica, and the Westside of LA generally.”
Neither the listing price nor the amount bid by the investment group was revealed.
