A motorist killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway near West Whittier and Pico Rivera has been identified only as “John Doe #78” according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office website, it was reported Saturday.
The agency’s website describes the motorist as a man in his 40s.
California Highway Patrol officers responded at 2:35 a.m. Friday to the northbound freeway and the Slauson Avenue on-ramp where they found a gray Saturn in a ditch and engulfed in flames, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
The vehicle had slammed into a freeway embankment and flew off the freeway. The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.
