An investigation continued Tuesday into a collision involving a semi truck hauling more than 40,000 pounds of aluminum that overturned on eastbound Interstate 10 in Banning, spilling its load and leaving the driver with minor injuries.

The crash was reported shortly after 4 a.m. Monday just east of Hargrave Street, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jonathan Torres.

The big rig veered across the roadway for unknown reasons and overturned, Torres said

The load of aluminum scattered across all lanes of the freeway, prompting temporary multi-lane closures during cleanup efforts that lasted until about 8 a.m.

Authorities said alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash.
