A freeway transition in the Glendale/Griffith Park area was shut down more than two hours Friday while firefighters tended to the driver of a solo vehicle crash and cleaned up oil that spilled from the SUV onto the roadway.
The crash was reported at 1:04 a.m. on the transition from the westbound Ventura (134) Freeway to the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The dark SUV reportedly crashed into attenuating sand barrels that absorb crash impact and the right hand shoulder wall, sustaining heavy damage and spilling its oil on the road, the CHP said.
The driver’s condition was not available.
The CHP issued a Sigalert at about 1:30 a.m. for the cleanup and it was canceled at 3:40 a.m.
