The 17-year-old son of a man stabbed to death in Pico Rivera was one of three suspects behind bars on suspicion of homicide Monday.
Sergio Gutierrez Sr., 50, was fatally stabbed about 1:35 a.m. Saturday at his home in a gated community in the 3700 block of Oaklawn Lane. Sheriff’s deputies later named his son, Sergio A. Gutierrez Jr., as a wanted “person of interest.”
The son and 18-year-old Jesus Adame were picked up in a park by Montebello police, and a third suspect, a juvenile, surrendered at the sheriff’s Pico Rivera station, according to deputies with the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.
On Tuesday, Adame is due in court in Downey, according to booking records. Jail records show he was also arrested Sept. 1 on suspicion of carrying a concealed dagger and released Sept. 3 when prosecutors with the District Attorney’s Office declined to charge him.
Mila Gutierrez, who rents a room behind the house, told a reporter at the scene that she heard a man screaming in Spanish, “He wants to kill me.”
Speaking at the scene, neighbor Christopher Esparza said law enforcement officers repeatedly had been to the home on reports of domestic disturbances.
“They kicked him out a few times too,” he said.
