The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, said Deputy Crystal Hernandez of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, which happened at 6:55 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of 75th Street, said Deputy Jeff Gordon of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

“When deputies arrived, they were met by a victim with apparent stab wounds,” Hernandez said. “The victim was able to direct deputies to the location of the suspect, at the rear of the residence. As deputies attempted to detain the suspect, the suspect produced a knife an attempted to assault the deputies,” she said.

“The deputies initially administered less-lethal force, but it was ineffective. The suspect continued his assault on the deputies, at which time a deputy involved shooting occurred,” Hernandez said.

A knife was recovered at the location, she said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and his condition was not available. Homicide detectives were dispatched to the scene to investigate, according to the sheriff’s department.
