A sheriff’s special weapons team fanned out in a residential neighborhood of Pico Rivera before sunrise Saturday to track down an armed suspect, and arrest him.
Deputies were called out to Rio Hindo Park, near Myrtle and Edna streets at 4:30 a.m. on a report of several people fighting. As deputies pulled up they found a 24-year-old man running from the location, according to a sheriff’s watch sergeant.
A containment line was set up and a sheriff’s special weapons team was eventually called to the scene, he said.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody about 7:30 a.m., the sheriff’s sergeant said.
“He (the suspect) kept moving from yard to yard,” he said.
The 24-year-old man was transported to an area hospital for a possible dog bite and will be later arrested for illegally possessing a handgun, the sheriff’s sergeant said. It was not clear if a sheriff’s dog or a backyard dog inflicted the bite.
No deputy was injured.
