Two pedestrians were killed by a hit-and-run driver in Chatsworth Thursday and a third was seriously injured in a crash that authorities blamed on street racing.

One of the victims died at the scene, and another died at a hospital, police said. A third was hospitalized with serious injuries.

It happened in the 21400 block of Plummer Street about 2:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

A Mustang modified for illegal street racing crashed into the victims, who were among about 60 people watching the cars race, said Detective Bill Bustos at an afternoon news conference at the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division.

The Mustang driver, identified as 21-year-old Henry Michael Gevorgyan, left the scene, abandoning the vehicle, and was being sought for questioning, Bustos said.

Gevorgyan’s photo was displayed at this afternoon’s news conference, where a flier was distributed listing his age as both 21 and 22.

Broadcast video showed the Mustang racing another car before it veered to the right and crashed.
