A third-party contractor damaged a two-inch natural gas line in the Hancock Park area Wednesday, prompting closure of eastbound Wilshire Boulevard while crews worked to handle the problem.
The leak occurred about 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Orange Drive, said Javier Mendoza of the Southern California Gas Co.

The eastbound lanes of Wilshire Boulevard were closed between La Brea and Highland avenues, but were reopened about 9 a.m.
No customers were without service because of the leak, Mendoza said.
“SoCalGas reminds residents and business owners to call 811 — Underground Service Alert — before you dig in the yard or at construction sites,” Mendoza said.
If a leak is found, report it to the Gas Co. by calling the 24-hour number (800) 427-2200.
