A Redondo Beach woman was charged Wednesday with a Santa Monica coffeehouse attack on a female tourist from New York.
Sara Christine Rizo, 39, pleaded not guilty to one felony count each of battery with serious bodily injury and criminal threats. Bail was set at $80,000.
Rizo allegedly pulled the victim by her hair without provocation as she sat with family members June 9 inside the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in the 200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. Rizo is also accused of threatening to kill the woman as she threw her to the ground.
Rizo was arrested Monday by Santa Monica police and is due back at the Airport Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles on July 1, when a date is scheduled to be set to determine if there is enough evidence to require her to stand trial.
If convicted as charged, she could face up to four years in state prison.
