A gunman who exchanged fire with deputies in Industry was hospitalized with unknown injuries after a three-hour search early Saturday.

The encounter occurred at 11:55 p.m. Friday in the 13300 block of Crossroads Parkway North, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Ryan Rouzan said.

Industry Station deputies responded to a “suspicious person in a vehicle” call, Rouzan said. Deputies who arrived at the location reported seeing the man who was in the vehicle flee with a handgun.

“While searching for the suspect, (he) fired several times at the deputies and a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” Rouzan said. “The suspect then hid in the foliage leading up to the Pomona (60) Freeway.”

The suspect did not comply when ordered several times to surrender to deputies, he said.

The Special Enforcement Bureau arrived and after several attempts to negotiate the man’s surrender, he was taken into custody, Rouzan said.

The 41-year-old suspect suffered gunshot wounds to his upper torso and was taken to a hospital where his condition was not publicly known.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, Rouzan said. No deputies were hurt in the shootout.
