Corona firefighters rescued a batch of “traumatized” kittens Wednesday from a Corona blaze that left one person with minor injuries.

The fire was reported shortly before 9 a.m. in the 1200 block of E Street, near Sherman Avenue, according to the Corona Fire Department. Crews arrived to find a camper shell burning in a vacant lot, threatening nearby homes.

A bystander suffered minor burn injuries to his hands and was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to the fire department.

Crews quickly contained the fire and discovered six kittens on the property, traumatized but apparently uninjured. It wasn’t immediately clear how officials determined the animals had been traumatized, nor what that exactly meant.

The litter was turned over to Corona Animal Control and will be examined by veterinarians, a city official told City News Service.

She did not know when, or if, the kittens would be available for adoption, nor was she able to provide a location for the kittens’ mother.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
