A tractor truck caught fire Sunday while heading west on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in West Covina.

The fire near Citrus Avenue was reported to the West Covina Fire Department at 12:19 p.m. and extinguished in 11 minutes, said Capt. Esteban Rodriguez of the West Covina Fire Department.

However, firefighters “had to spend about an hour on the freeway,” Rodriguez said.

The driver escaped the big rig unharmed. It became engulfed by the time firefighters arrived, California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Rubio said.

A SigAlert was issued at 12:49 p.m. and one lane of the westbound freeway and the Citrus Avenue on-ramp were closed for about an hour.

No injuries were reported.
