A man reportedly running with a gun was shot an unknown number of times by police in Echo Park just after midnight Sunday.
The man was hospitalized with what police said were stable life signs.
LAPD Northeast gang officers were conducting a routine patrol at Sunset Boulevard and Sutherland Street when they saw a large group of individuals in what appeared to a “confrontational argument,” said Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.
The officers stopped to investigate, at which time one of individuals pulled out a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect ran away, Eisenman said.
The officers ran after the suspect for about one block, toward a gas station, at which time a second officer-involved shooting occurred, she said.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and rushed to an area hospital in stable condition, she said.
A gun was recovered at the scene and no officers were injured, Eisenman said.
