An “elderly” man was killed when he ran into the path of a car on a Long Beach street, authorities said Sunday.

The myserious deadly incident took place about 5:50 p.m. Saturday, at the intersection of 7th Street and Olive Avenue, Long Beach police Lt. Ryan LeBaron said.

The dead man, referred to only as “elderly” by police who did not provide his age, was transported to Long Beach Hospital, where he later died, according to LB police. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities did not speculate about a possible suicide as an explanation for the man’s actions.

According to a police news release, the pedestrian, “for an unknown reason, ran off the southwest corner of 7th Street and Olive into the path of the 2011 Nissan that was traveling eastbound on 7th Street and had a green traffic light to continue through the intersection of Olive Avenue.”

The driver had no time to stop and hit the man, police said. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police in the investigation, LeBaron said.

Anyone with information on this crash was asked to call LB police Detective David Lauro at (5620 570-7355.
