The roasted body found inside a flaming vehicle early Thursday morning was that of a 19-year-old man who apparently killed himself, authorities have disclosed.

Few details were yet available about the horrifying discovery made by firefighters in the burned-out car after they successfully battled a routine vehicle blaze near Loyola Marymount University.

Authorities did not say how they determined the death was a suicide, but they did say the dead person had no connection to LMU.

Police said only that he was 19, but they provided no further identification nor motive.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a car fire shortly before 2:15 a.m. in the area of Loyola and Lincoln boulevards, according to Sgt. Chris Jordan of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division. When the fire was put out, firefighters discovered the charred body inside the vehicle, Jordan said.

LAPD Officer Mike Lopez confirmed that the death was being investigated as a suicide.
