An autopsy was pending Tuesday on the body of a 23-year- old Bellflower woman who was found dead in her home after what her husband described as a night of drinking and partying.

The death prompted an investigation by sheriff’s homicide detectives in a case that “doesn’t make much sense,” according to one official.

Deputies went to a residence in the 9500 block of Cedar Street, between Bellflower Boulevard and Clark Avenue, at 6:26 p.m. Monday in response to a report of a person not breathing, said Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina said the woman’s husband told deputies they had gone out partying and drank a lot Sunday night to early Monday before falling asleep. The husband awoke sometime Monday afternoon and discovered his wife unresponsive and not breathing, authorities said.

“It doesn’t make much sense,” Corina said at the scene, adding that the husband was being questioned but was not in custody.

Authorities were waiting to obtain a search warrant for the couple’s townhome Monday night, NBC4 reported. The woman showed no obvious signs of trauma, according to the station.
