On one of the busiest travel holiday weekends of the year at Los Angeles International Airport, vehicle traffic came to a halt after a shuttle bus and a passenger car collided on the lower arrival level in front of United Airlines Terminal Seven.
One person appeared to have been injured in the crash. However, those injuries may have been minor, as the victim declined being taken to a hospital, according to one official.
The LAX crash created a significant traffic jam on the lower level, and vehicles were backed up around the central terminal area for about an hour after the incident at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, said Airport Police Officer Alicia Hernandez.
Traffic was jammed while the patient was examined and the vehicles were cleared away, but it was flowing again about 8:10 p.m., she said.
Saturday night, while busy, was probably one of the less trafficked times of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Officials had predicted that 2.3 million travelers would pass through LAX during the holiday — an 8.4 percent hike over last year’s record.
Sunday evening would likely be a busier time as passengers return from their holiday trips.
