A motorist was killed Monday in a collision just west of Perris involving a big rig and a sedan.
The fatality occurred about 11:25 a.m. on state Route 74, near Festus Circle, in the unincorporated community of Meadowbrook, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Honda Accord and a tractor-trailer collided in the middle of the highway, though it was unclear which vehicle precipitated the crash.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived minutes later and found the occupant of the smaller vehicle trapped in the wreckage. The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trucker was uninjured.
The CHP shut down one lane on each side of the four-lane highway. The closure was expected to remain in effect until about 1:30 p.m., according to the agency.
