A 53-year-old man was arrested Friday on suspicion of burglarizing a home in Claremont where a resident was sleeping.

The suspect, identified as Paul Banic of Fontana, allegedly entered the home in the 4100 block of Oak Hollow Road through an unlocked door in the early morning hours Thursday and took the victim’s purse, wallet containing cash and credit cards and other personal items, according to Claremont Police Department Sgt. Robert Ewing.

Detectives identified the suspect and found he was wanted in connection with a previous theft in March, Ewing said.

“The vehicle related to the suspect was also identified and the vehicle information was passed on to patrol officers,” Ewing said.

Patrol officers located the vehicle and pulled it over, Ewing said.

“During a search of the suspect vehicle, officers located stolen property taken during the Oak Hollow Road residential burglary,” Ewing said. “They also located additional stolen property related to burglaries that occurred in the cities of Chino Hills, Montclair and Pomona.”

Banic was booked on suspicion of residential burglary, possession of stolen property and identity theft.
