A sheriff’s SWAT team burst into an apartment in Midway City Tuesday and arrested a barricaded domestic violence suspect to end a standoff lasting almost eight hours, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputies responded to a domestic violence call at 7:40 p.m. Monday involving a woman and a man in the 1500 block of Pacific Street. By the time they arrived, the woman was out of the residence and it is unclear if she suffered any injuries, according to sheriff’s Lt. Mike Tanabe.

A SWAT team made a forced entry into the suspect’s apartment at 3:20 a.m. after a lack of communication with the man, Tanabe said.

The man was taken to hospital for injuries before being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

Neighbors who were evacuated during the standoff are being allowed back into their residences.
