A late-night collision involving a gravel-filled dump truck resulted in the death of an 18-year-old woman from Blythe, officials announced.

Annica Dahlstrom succumbed to her injuries from the collision on Wednesday just before midnight, according to a report from the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Around 10:35 p.m., Blythe police officers responded to the traffic collision at Highway 95 and Chanslor Way at around 10:35 p.m., police said.

“Officers arrived and found that the two vehicles involved were a large white dump truck, loaded with gravel, and a silver 2016 Chevrolet Cruz,” police said. “The driver of the silver Chevrolet Cruz suffered major injuries and was taken from the scene and driven to Palo Verde Hospital by Blythe Ambulance.”

Investigating officers discovered that the dump truck was traveling southbound on Highway 95, while Dahlstrom drove the Chevy Cruz eastbound on Chanslor Way. “For an unknown reason the driver of the Chevrolet Cruz proceeded straight through the intersection and was struck by the dump truck,” police said.

Officials did not immediately confirm if the intersection was managed by a stop light or stop sign.

Police ask that anyone with information regarding the collision call Blythe Police Department, or give their information anonymously by calling Crime Stop at 921-CARE (2273), or at blythepd@cityofblythe.ca.gov.
