The Los Angeles Wildcats will begin to fill their roster Tuesday when they are assigned a quarterback and select 30 players in the XFL Draft.

The draft will be conducted in five phases, with each of the first four phases consisting of 10 rounds. The order of selection was determined by a lottery. The Wildcats won the lottery, giving them the first choice among eight draft matrixes. They chose the matrix that would give them the first choice in the offensive linemen phase, the second phase.

The draft will use a “snake” format with the selection order reversing after each round.

The Wildcats have the eighth and final choice in the first round of the first phase and the first choice in the second round. The first phase is limited to quarterbacks, running backs, receivers and tight ends.

The Wildcats have the fourth choice in the first round of Tuesday’s final phase for defensive linemen and linebackers.

The draft will conclude Wednesday with the defensive backfield phase, where the Wildcats will have the fifth choice in the first round, and the 30-round open phase for all remaining players after the positional drafts in addition to kickers, punters and long snappers. The Wildcats will have the fourth choice in the first round.

The league’s eight teams will make their selections from a pool of approximately 1,000 players, all of whom accepted an invitation from Commissioner Oliver Luck and passed a standard background check.

Teams will be given 90 seconds to make a selection.

XFL teams will add to their rosters with a supplemental draft at the end of November for players who were ineligible to be drafted Tuesday or Wednesday, either because they are on NFL rosters or playing college football.

The Wildcats are set to open their season the weekend of Feb. 8-9. They will play their home games at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.
