An attempted murder charge is expected to be filed Thursday against a 39-year-old felon suspected of critically wounding a man in a shooting in Indio last weekend.
John Kevin Medina of Indio is accused of shooting a man in the head about 12:40 a.m. Saturday in the 44700 block of King Street, just south of Indio Boulevard, according to the Indio Police Department. Officers found a white van that had crashed into parked vehicles on King Street and a man inside the van with a gunshot wound to his head, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital by paramedics and listed in critical condition with stable vital signs, according to police.
The name of the victim was not disclosed.
On Tuesday, detectives arrested Medina about 1 a.m. near the on Monroe Street near Avenue 42, according to police, who did not specify how they determined Medina was a suspect.
Medina was booked on suspicion of attempted murder at the Indio jail, where he remains without bail awaiting his expected arraignment Thursday afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio. There has been no word on motive.
Court records show Medina has several felony convictions under his belt in Riverside County, including evading arrest, embezzlement, criminal threats and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
