Authorities Thursday identified a woman who was fatally struck — along with a toddler — by a Metro train in Monrovia.
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday near California Avenue and Duarte Road, according to Ramon Montenegro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Services Bureau.
The woman was identified by the coroner’s office as 36-year-old Therese Papagayo of Monrovia. The boy has been listed as unidentified by the coroner’s office. The child was believed to be under 2 years old, according to Montenegro.
The northbound train was operating on the L Line, formerly known as the Gold Line, from the Monrovia Station when it hit the pedestrians, he said.
Rail service was interrupted for about five hours between the Monrovia and Duarte stations. Monrovia police were investigating the circumstances of the crash, assisted by personnel from the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau and Metro.
