A man and two women were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of conspiring with seven others in a series of carjackings in Moreno Valley and Perris that led to several shootings.
Daquarie Duron Diggs, 18, Tailesha Lee King, 42, and Yolanda Robinson, 39 — all of Moreno Valley — were booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside, where Diggs is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
He was arrested for alleged conspiracy to commit a felony, while King was booked for allegedly destroying evidence, and Robinson was booked for allegedly receiving stolen property and being in possession of drugs for sale.
The women were issued criminal citations ordering them to appear at the Riverside Hall of Justice on a future date and released on their own recognizance.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Marcuse, the trio are the most recent suspects nabbed in connection with an alleged carjacking ring that targeted motorists in the Perris Valley corridor during November and December.
All of the thefts involved suspects brandishing firearms at motorists to force them to hand over their car keys, Marcuse said.
Those previously taken into custody include four teenage boys whose names were withheld and three young men: William Joseph Lee Payne, 18, of Moreno Valley, Deon Peeler, 20, of Perris, and Brian Roman, 22, of Moreno Valley.
Peeler and Roman were booked on suspicion of conspiracy and released on their own recognizance over a month ago. Payne, however, is charged with carjacking and assault and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail at the Robert Presley Jail.
One of the teens is charged with attempted murder and is being held at Riverside Juvenile Hall.
Marcuse said that in two of the carjackings, victims came under fire, and one motorist was shot but survived.
Detectives relied on tips from the public and images captured by the Moreno Valley Citywide Camera System to identify some of the suspects, according to the sergeant, who said the investigation is ongoing.
