An investigation was underway Thursday into the death of a woman who was struck by a car while crossing an intersection near Riverside Municipal Airport.
The fatality occurred about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at Central and Wilderness avenues, just south of the airport boundary, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Sgt. Emilio Angulo said the victim, whose name was withheld pending family notifications, was pushing a shopping cart across Central when she was hit by a 2000 Mercedes-Benz driven by a 52-year-old Riverside woman.
A 22-year-old Fontana man in a Hyundai Elantra, traveling behind the Mercedes, struck the victim immediately afterward, Angulo said. He said both motorists stopped and called 911.
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
No one was arrested, and the investigation is ongoing, according to Angulo, who said anyone with information was asked to contact the police Traffic Bureau at 951-826-8723.
